Safety first as Wightlink journeys increase

Wightlink has produced a short film showing the steps it is taking to ensure travel is as safe as possible while the COVID-19 threat remains.

The film is part of Wightlink’s commitment to safe travel both now and in future as lockdown restrictions are eased.

Cross-Solent traffic remains a small fraction of what would usually be expected at this time of the year. But there has been a slow increase in volumes in line with evolving Government advice and, with further announcements expected, Wightlink is keen to demonstrate it is taking a range of safety precautions.

The film includes advice to travellers on what they can expect on arrival at ports and on board vessels, most of which remain ‘stay in car’ services. The film also shows how passengers are helped to socially distance on sailings where the lounges and outside decks are in use.

Keith Greenfield, Wightlink chief executive, says: “For the foreseeable future, journeys with all cross-Solent carriers will be different. We are keen to show visitors what travelling with us looks like now and what steps they need to take to comply with Government advice.

“We continue to abide by Government and local council guidelines and inform our customers of current travel advice – but it is helpful for those travelling with us to know what safety steps they need to take and what safety measures they will encounter as they journey with us.

“The film is also an assurance that Wightlink puts safety at the forefront of all we do and never more so than during the coronavirus pandemic.”
